Travel Itinerary

Day 1 -  AKWAABA - WELCOME

Arrive in Accra, Ghana. You will be met at the airport by Landtours representatives who will assist youwith your transfer from the airport to your hotel. Enjoy a welcome drink at the hotel and participate in an orientation session..

Day 2 - ACCRA CITY TOUR

 A The day begins with a sightseeing tour of Accra, Ghana’s capital and most populous city. Explore key landmarks such as the W.E.B. Du Bois Center for Pan African Culture and the Independence/Black Star Square, learning about Ghana’s history and its first president who led the country to independence. The tour then moves to The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, dedicated to Ghana’s first President, where visitors can explore Nkrumah’s mausoleum, a museum showcasing his life, and his personal residence. Conclude the day at the Arts Center, an open-air market where participants can shop for goods from Ghana and West Africa, including fabrics of various materials, designs, colors, and textures.

Day 3 -  JOURNEY TO CAPE COAST

Enjoy a drive to Cape Coast, passing through the historic Denkyira Kingdom en route to Kakum National Park, a preserved tropical rainforest in West Africa. Upon arrival, you’ll have the option to either take a 2 km nature walk through the rainforest to explore its diverse flora and fauna, along with their medicinal properties, or experience the canopy walkway suspended 40 meters above the forest floor. Delve into a tour of the renowned Forts, Castles, and Slave Dungeons of Ghana. This excursion offers insight into the harrowing history of the trans-Atlantic slave trade and its enduring impact. Visit Cape Coast Castle, initially built by the Swedes in 1653 and later controlled by the British. Here, you’ll learn about the intricate dynamics between Western slave traders and African tribes that facilitated the slave trade. Exploring the castle allows visitors to confront history firsthand, standing within the dark and oppressive dungeons, imagining the plight of millions of enslaved Africans. Additionally, the castle houses the West African Historical Museum, enriching the educational experience.

Day 4 -  ELMINA TO MAAHA

Enjoy a visit to Elmina Castle, also known as St. George’s Castle, built by the Portuguese in 1482. Learn about the complex dynamics of the trans-Atlantic slave trade and witness the harsh conditions endured by enslaved people in the dark dungeons. This firsthand experience serves as a powerful reminder of the brutality of the slave trade. Afterward, continue your journey to Maaha Beach Resort.

Day 5 - NZULEZU TO NKROFUL

Journey to Nzulezu, a unique village built on water. Nzulezu, meaning “built on water” in Nzema, is entirely constructed on stilts over a lake fed by two rivers. Legend has it that villagers were led to this secure location by a snail. After an hour’s drive through a rubber plantation, enjoy a five-kilometer ride on the lake in a local dugout canoe (life jackets provided). Upon arrival, interact with locals and explore the village, noticing the solid wood construction of the houses and the raffia walkways. Later, visit Fort Appolonia in Beyin, built in 1768 by English merchants and later transferred to the Dutch, who renamed it after King Willem III. The Dutch held the fort until 1872 when it was handed over to the British. Conclude the tour with a drive to Busua, where you’ll check into your hotel and unwind. Additionally, explore Ghana’s rich history with a visit to Nkroful, the birthplace of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President and a pivotal figure in the nation’s fight for independence. Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of his village, gaining insights into Nkrumah’s early life and visionary leadership. This experience offers a meaningful encounter with Ghana’s past and the legacy of an extraordinary leader.

Day 6 - DAY AT LEISURE

 Enjoy a relaxing day at the beautiful beach-side resort.

Day 7 -  MAAHA TO ELMINA

Check out of Maaha Beach Resort and enjoy a drive back to Elmina.

Day 8 -  ELMINA TO ACCRA

After breakfast, head back to Accra for your flight back home.
